Price Graph should include comparison data

Anonymous 9 years ago 0

In an effort to curb the tendency of certain "collectors" to ruin the hobby by acting like they are investors, I would like to suggest that PriceCharting add some controls to the price graphs that can enable some additional comparison data to be displayed on the price graph:

  1. The original MSRP of the game at launch.  This will show that most gamed depreciate in value from their original retail value.
  2. The adjusted MSRP of the game, adjusted by inflation.  This will show how expensive older games really were, and how most games that do hold some value to collectors, even those that are highly desirable to the point where people are now paying over the retail price for them, still do not outperform inflation.
  3. The performance of the S&P 500 over the time since the game was released, showing how much a real investment in the amount of the MSRP of the game into an S&P index fund would have grown over the time since the game was released.  This will show what a real investment portfolio is like.

Rationale: While the pricecharting service is great to help establish the values of games being sold in the secondary market, often times collectible sellers feel like they are justified in charging what a price guide says something is worth, simply because that's what the guide says it's worth, without taking into consideration things like condition, region, and other factors. Worse, over time sellers feel like they can charge a little more than guide in order to recoup their "business" expenses, and will point to charts showing a trending increase in price as evidence that collectibles are a good "investment".  This additional data would easily refute such claims, by and large, hopefully resulting in speculators dropping out of the market, which would tend to keep prices lower, which would benefit real collectors who want to own and play real copies of games, not hoard and "invest" in them.

Show Random Games For Sale On The Front Page

Anonymous 10 years ago updated 10 years ago 1

Is there any way to display random games for sale, by different buyers, on the front page? There are times I list a few games, and then minutes later someone posts dozens upon dozens of games, pushing my titles from the front page to many pages back. Doesn't seem fair if, when a buyer checks 'Newest Listings' that all he might see are games from one or two specific sellers.

When making a listing let me add multiple photos at the same time instead of adding them individually. Selecting all the photos I want at the same time would save me some time.

Include New Grading Scales (BGS 10 Black, CGC Pristine, ACE, TAG) in CSV/API Exports

Anonymous 3 months ago updated 1 month ago 3

Currently, the CSV downloads and API data appear to be lagging behind the live website. More importantly, several modern grading standards that are already visible on the website are missing from the data exports.

Feature Request: Please synchronize the CSV/API database with the live site and add the following price points to the export tools:

  • BGS 10 Black Label
  • CGC 10 Pristine
  • ACE 10
  • TAG 10

Why this is important: As collectors and sellers increasingly use these grading services, having this data available via API/CSV is essential for accurate inventory management and real-time market analysis. Keeping the export tools in sync with the website ensures that "Legendary" (and Pro) subscribers get the full value of the data service.

Collection condensing quantity for identical scanned items

Listless 10 months ago 0

I am in the process of organizing my card collections while also continuing to add to it. This has created numerous instances of identical listings in my collection for the same card. Let’s say for instance I scan in 5 bulbasaur cards. I scan one of them, set the quantity to 5, and add it to the collection. Later after opening a pack, I get a new, identical bulbasaur. Once I scan it in and add it to the collection, I’ll have 2 listings for that bulbasaur. One listing would show a quantity of 5, and the 2nd listing would show a quantity of 1. Since i use the default setting for condition and i verify the set before adding the cards to my collection, they are identical listings that are separated due to the time they were added.

I would like a feature that allows cards with the same values (i.e. condition, set, etc) in my collection to be automatically condensed. I would rather see a single listing for a card with the correct quantity rather than a bunch of individual listings from each time I’ve added that same card to my collection.
