Dark/Night Theme choice for easier and more pleasant night time viewing.

Xeddius 6 years ago updated by sales 6 months ago 19

I'd like to see a dark/night mode, I frequently use the site at night and it would be a very nice and relatively useful feature.

Dark theme is live on the site.  You will automatically see it if your device is set to show dark theme by default.

This. Why does the site have to be so bright, it hurts my eyes.

I would also like to add that having a dark mode helps save power too i.e. smart phones and laptops that run on batteries  . Added perk along with looking cool and easier on the eyes.

As time goes by this becomes more and more relevant. Many sites including almost all major ones have the dark mode now and Pricecharting is sticking out :)

You could try to force dark mode in Chrome for example (which is available in Experiments)
It's dark but it could give some issues with the general layout.

Good suggestion.  I'll look into that.

This dark mode sucks how do I turn it off?  The color choices don't work and interfere in a way that makes it unreadable.  Especially the purple text or on profiles where the box is still white.

I've turned off dark theme until it can be improved.

Is there option to turn toggle it off or do i have to change my browsers settings to not show dark theme by default?

Right now you need to change your browser default if you want to disable it.  I'd love to know why you want to disable it though if that is your device default.  Is there something about it that you don't like?

I hope to add an on-site opt-out in the future.

I just prefer to use the light mode during the day time and if i were awake at night i could just ease my eyes by quickly switching to the dark mode with a single button instead of going into the browser settings.

Thanks for that feedback.  I'll work on a way to turn it on and off and I'll probably turn it off by default and let people opt-in instead.  Then the preference would be stored in cookie on that device.

Awesome, thanks!!!

Your welcome.  Glad you like it.

You can opt-in or out of dark theme now instead of using your device defaults you opt-in or out.

After you make the choice the option sticks with your device until you change it again.

I just noticed today that there is a secret dark theme button hidden away behind a mouse hover, you should really make it more obvious cause this is the brightest website on the internet quite possibly. :D

You should also really automatically set it to dark or light based on the browser level user preference, more info: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/@media/prefers-color-scheme

Glad you found the option now. I'll look into the automatic options and see if that is something we want to implement for users or not and how we would do it.

I know this is old and the feature went live 3 years ago, and tweaked a could years ago, but it's still a feature full of issues. Dark Mode is nearly unusable in many pages due to the color scheme. There are many sections of the site, especially result fields, that are impossible to even read.

What's the point of a feature (that's almost a requirement in modern times) if it renders the functions of the site unusable? Are there any plans to further tweak or correct the color scheme in order to render every section of the website readable?

We can definitely tweak any problems.  Please email sales@vgpc.com with screenshots of the pages that are not displaying correctly and we can change it.

Generally speaking, most uses like the dark theme and think it is very useful so we probably won't be changing the overall scheme, but we can definitely fix any parts of the site that might be displaying incorrectly for some reason.
