Set/Expansion Filter for Card Scanner

Anonymous 1 month ago updated 3 weeks ago 4

The card scanner function is great, but would be awesome to be able to set a default set/expansion for the session.

I have generally sorted my cards into sets before scanning, so being able to set the filter would remove the need to correct a bunch of entries for cards that have been reprinted.

Depending on the set, up to 50% of cards selected a different expansion requiring a fair bit of manual intervention. Would probably have been quicker to not use a scanner, in which case other providers have a preferable UI.

I’m not a computer guy, but I imagine that setting the expansion would potential reduce the resource demand on your servers? As instead of comparing card to thousands of options, it is only a couple of hundred.

Please let me know if this related to a specific card type (pokemon, yugioh, etc) so we can look into this more.

Thank you

For me it would be pokemon, but for others I could imagine yugioh and MTG would also be relevant.

It would mean that ideally I wouldn’t have to change a scan, as it will default to the correct variant for what I’m doing.

Thank you for that feedback.  The exact variant, holo, reverse, etc could still be an issue with just filter expansion but it depends on the card.  Those variants that depend on lighting to see the difference are hard to match perfectly as the top result since lighting varies so much for each photo.

The issue should be significantly less present though, as in theory it should only relate to the common/uncommon holos where there may also be a non-holo version. Modern rares are only holo, and RR and above are unique art for the set.

Across all the scanning apps, an issue I regularly run into is it selecting the incorrect language variant, particularly when I can’t select Pokemon JP

There is probably also a large cohort that don’t scan their bulk, so they will again be better off.
