Add "Pending Review" labels to reported ebay sales and to manually added ebay sales so that users can know if a record is pending a review before removing, editing, or adding to Pricecharting
Background:
Adding eBay records is frustrating because I repeatedly add legit sales only to see them never appear on the item's records listing, even after multiple attempts over the span of days. I have no idea what's going on behind the scenes. The same goes for when reporting records. I repeatedly report false listings, or incorrect listings (there are so many records with game and manual listed in the loose only section) and they never get removed until I send an email to the owner to have them removed. There is a real lack of transparency. This is a problem.
Acceptance Criteria
Labels for adding missing sales
- As a User, I want to ensure that every time I add a missing eBay sale, it shows immediately in the sales records for the item in real time with a tag or label stating (Pending Review).
- Then once it is reviewed by other users, it can be approved or rejected.
- If approved, then remove (Pending Review) label from the record, and the record remains.
- If rejected, then send automated email to the user who manually added the record and remove the record from the item's records.
Labels for reporting sales
- As a User, I want to see reported ebay sales given a label (Reported - Under Review) as soon as they are reported.
- The label displays until the record is reviewed.
- Depending on the action (edit category, delete, change to different item) once that action occurs, then remove the (Reported - Under Review) label once the record is altered/deleted/moved to its desired state/location.

Those fake ebay sales are really annoying... there are a lot of them... When a 100$ average game is listed as sold at 10$ but the ebay listing is unavailable, well I'm sorry but it doesnt look legit AT ALL and should not be counted...
I know it's nearly impossible to reach perfection, but I think the volume of valid sales is high enough that suspicious ones could be left out...
I'm more talking about the sheer volume of incorrectly categorized items. There are too many records under "Loose" where the ebay listing clearly states "Game and Manual" or "Game and Box". These listings are artificially inflating the average for those games. Every time I report those listings, they continue to show in the records under "Loose" no matter how many times I report them. It really makes me lose faith in the overall system.
Your concern is valid too although exceptionally low prices does happen when some sellers are unaware of what they have when listing. Over a year ago, there was a legit Sculptor's Cut manual sold on ebay for under $10, so that was technically a valid sale.
We just need a better way to see which listings are pending review and maybe a count of how many different people have flagged the item for review. It would really help - right now, it's just a black box.
Can you give me a link to a page on our site that has sales like that? Or a screenshot? I definitely want to look into that. The only time I've seen sales like that is when they are really old sales (when the prices were much lower) and ebay doesn't keep listings on the site past 30-60 days or so.
A good example of this would be SNES Super Scope 6 for the cartridge only vs the gun bundle. Some records include the hardware with it, which I used to report because it doesn't fit with "game only", but gave up because it proved futile.
Thanks for this indepth request. I'll wait to see what other people think of this idea. Most of these steps would require a very big redesign of the database or a big investment in processes.
We already have processes in place to automatically flag outlier sales and we have people processes questionable sales all the time. We are working on some data improvements for items with no clear indication if they have the box or manual based on the title of the ebay listing.
Thanks a lot for the consideration. I understand it could also be a challenge to prevent people from spamming that kind of system and reporting everything, but I’m sure that could happen without the labels. I’d be happy to help with more requirements if needed (I’m a Business Analyst by trade).
Agreed! This is something that definitely needs to be fixed, far too often there are incorrectly categorized listings which are near impossible to get removed or added to the correct category.
