add console sets for original retail releases as a sort feature

Anonymous 2 years ago updated by venomous_wario 2 years ago 10

Hi, I would like to see the ability to filter games by standard retail releases for each console set in the pricecharting base site and the collection tracker.  For example, the NES pricecharting has become bloated with homebrews, 3/5 screw variants, after-market re-releases, unlicensed games, etc.  The Dreamcast pricecharting has also become bloated with newer releases and hard to determine how close I am to the 251 North American retail releases.  It would be nice to be able to filter out the noise and look at just the original set of retail releases for each console.

Would you want to filter by date?  Like everything before "X" date?

Or have a checkbox filter or something that would remove all variants (already exists) and homebrew etc?

maybe a release date filter would work that has a cutoff date of the final retail release for a console.  For example, using the Warios Woods release date for NES as that was the final North American retail release.  Filter out variants, remove any games from other regions that crept into the US/NTSC dataset (looking at you Saturn and Dreamcast pricechart lists, and I think you would have the standard retail releases for a given consoles library

I like this idea.  If we added support for filtering by release date on the backend, then we would just need to code in the "last commercial release" for different consoles and we could have a quick link to the results for games only, no variants, before release date.

I'm going to wait a bit to see how popular this request is with other people, but I think that would be a popular feature.

Would it really need to be a filter for the dates? Seems like that could still allow for some mistakes. Why not just make a fixed list of the games released, they're already known. For most consoles this should work NES, SNES, 7800, 5200 etc The only issues this may run into is for really obscure stuff...and the 2600

this would be a little more involved but might be the best.  There

or the checkbox would be awesome too to filter out the variants, after-market releases, other region games that made it in, etx

yes! Great idea

licensed is prolly the best way to do it though would take crazy work to do

I like this idea!  You can maybe do a drop down in Genre for the standard retail releases during console life.  You could also maybe add another drop down filter to select the set under variants or something.
