Something must be done to make prices more accurate!

Anonymous 2 years ago updated 2 years ago 4

For example, just take a look at the NES games.... This is a total cluster F! Everyone that releases a "Homebrew" or "Limited" release is added to the complete set and it's a pure cluster F! These must be removed from the list and put into a separate catagory because there's no way a game released in artificial limited quanities, has value that impacts the total value per cart for the total NES library! In the words of Dr. Fauchi "It just makes common sense". I've noticed lots of discrepancies from pricecharting compared to the "actual" sale prices. It's getting a little out of control because most sales of rare games haven't happened in a year+, yet the last sale was $100 more then what "YOU" value it at. Other example games are selling for 50%+ more compared to what "You" say they are worth, yet they only gain a mere 5% value per month??? Most games are selling for a lot higher compared to the "pricecharting" ;-) confirmed price. I've been following many of my purchases and have noticed a neglegable price impact to the downside or the upside even though some of my purchases have been the only one seen in years on Ebay. (For example, the last known game sale was 3 years ago selling for $200 and only 1 shows up every couple years, even though I made a purchase on Ebay and paid $400 for it the game will now show a value of only $250). I don't know what your interest is in manipulating prices but it isn't working and NO DEALER I've encountered will match them. In fact if you talk to any dealers about price charting prices they will laugh at you.

I don't necessarily disagree with some of what you've said about the newer NES games and such (i.e.,that it could perhaps be organized slightly differently so that all of the classic titles aren't affected by the newer games that have been released, catalogued, and entered with the 'Homebrew' notation), but everything you say after that is just not very easy to read as a "Feature Suggestion/Idea." Instead, it seems as if you're making some assumptions (rooted in nothing except speculation that's already skewed by your apparent bias) about this site, the owner(s), and the processes used to give the prices we see on the site. And the manner in which you present your discontentment with VGPC is just downright rude, disrespectful, and unwarranted; there are certainly ways to voice yourself without being hurtful to others, whether there is agreement or disagreement. Also, I can't find any immediate or prominent examples of 'rare games' that haven't sold in over a year but that have prior sale prices of "$100 more [than] what [VGPC] value[s] it at." Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I see games sell everyday that most would consider rare and their sale prices are usually very aligned with VGPC and totally within what one would expect a valid range to be for determining average sale price and value. I'll just stop there because this is already more time than I'd planned to spend writing this, but I could go on. I just felt compelled to advocate for VGPC and its community.

I'm not here to word my sentences in a safe manner so you and everyone has a "safe space" because I'm speaking the truth. If you think the truth is rude that is your problem because I'm stating facts. Look at any market like crypto, precious metals and stocks, there is a bid and an ask and for some reason this market ignores that completely and bases "value" on outdated data.

Thanks for the feedback @anonymous .  We strive to track the prices for every game and track every sale for an item on ebay.  We sometimes miss some because they sell quickly, ebay doesn't include it in their API, or something else.  We have tools available for users to let us know about any missing sales.

https://www.pricecharting.com/ebay/add-new-listings

We also have multiple methods in place to find those sales too.

I'm sorry if you felt the data wasn't as accurate as you like, but please give me concrete examples where the price is wrong and I will work to address those.

We are definitely not trying to manipulate the prices.  We are as transparent as possible with the sales data we have and the price that was calculated based on that sales data.

@Jesse - Thank you for defending the site and glad you like it.  I'll look into that Homebrew issue you mentioned a bit more.  Those are a bit divisive in the community because some people love them and want to add them to their collections, but other users just want the old stuff.  The volume on the homebrew stuff is lower too, so the price accuracy is lower as well.

I highly recommend getting ahead of the curve because as soon as ebay releases their collectible prices, this site will be irrelivent if it isn't doing it better and more responsibly.
