Let buyers pay with paypal on the marketplace

Paypal is now live on the marketplace for all buyers and sellers.

You can buy games with your existing Paypal account or checkout as a guest if you don't have one.

If you want to sell games, you can connect your Paypal account to PriceCharting and start selling. We will accept payments on your behalf and funds will be deposited directly to your Paypal account.

I don't know why this got a -1. I am most definitely steering clear of this service until they start accepting Paypal as a payment method. The huge lack of seller AND buyer protection is a huge flaw in a P2P marketplace. Credit/debit cards don't provide any kind of protection in this regard, nor does Bitcoin as far as I know.

Credit and debit cards provide the same seller protection as PayPal: buyer doesn't get his stuff so he gets his money back. With my credit card company's website, the process is actually easier than PayPal's.

Since this is direct competition would ebay even allow that payment option it?
Under review
Paypal and eBay are separate companies now so Paypal would not be biased based upon any competitive factor. Up until several months ago that might have been a concern

Hi, i also would like Paypal support. I do not know Stripe and the less sites i share my personal information the better. It is the only thing that keeps me from using the marketplace. :(

Too bad... I wanted to buy a game through here and I can't because I only use PayPal. Put payment option using PayPal here, please.

Would love to sell on this site but I want the money received to go to my paypal account instead of my bank account. Please add Paypal for both Buyers and Sellers.

Planned

We are working with Paypal integration team to figure out the best way for us to add Paypal. We hope to have it available on the marketplace in the near future.

I love paypal, as i use it for all my purchases online, and i will not be able to buy great games at great prices at this website until then, but thank you Sales for finally planning to integrate it into your system.

I'm new and it looks like your already working on my issue but let me ask 3 weeks later is there any update with the paypal addition theres now way that site is getting my personal information sry and I like to use my business debt card on the go where I go. this place would be huge with paypal added

Is Paypal integration still in the works? There has not been any posts here for 6 months and Imwas wondering if this had been dropped. Only thing preventing me from selling here

It is still planned and we are doing coding for it now. I can't give an exact ETA but we do still want it and we are working on it.

How long is this going to take? Paypal integration was requested a year ago and still has not happened.

If I could I would implement this tomorrow, but Paypal integration is a major pain. Their software is very difficult to work with and getting it working while another payment method is offered adds a whole other level of complexity. We have an outside developer who has Paypal integration as their top priority.

It has taken longer than we expected because we have put other features and improvements above Paypal integration because they are easier to implement and give more benefit to existing users because they are used more often.

I mean, 99gamers before they closed had paypal integration, and swapcaps, a new startup, already has paypal integration. If a brand new startup can have multiple payment methods including paypal ready to go, I don't see how PriceCharting, which has been around for awhile, can say it's "difficult." Maybe the problem is the outside developer. When 99gamers closed I thought this would be the ideal platform to migrate to, but with the lack of paypal support that doesn't seem to be the case. You basically said that paypal integration was too difficult so you put other things on higher priority instead. That's like starbucks saying making coffee is too difficult so they put priority on tea instead. Paypal has such a huge userbase that you could have absorbed.

Paypal is definitely doable and we want to do it.

The outside developer is new. We have made this a priority so we have an outside developer working on it instead of doing it in house. Doing it in house caused it be slower because other priorities took precedence.

The marketplace is not our main business. Video game prices is the main line of business. Improvements to the pricing site have a much bigger impact on our users and business so those were made priorities over marketplace improvements. We still add features to the marketplace and continually want to improve it, but it isn't always the top priority.

Here is an example. We improved the search function on the site so searches are more likely to find the desired result regardless of punctutation, spacing, nicknames, etc. This improvement impacted about 1.3 million searches so we prioritized it above paypal.

For the new year, we decided to make paypal a bigger priority so we have an outside developer working on it. Hopefully it will be available in the near future.

An update for everyone. We have processed our first test payment with paypal's test environment and our test servers. Some finer points to work out but all is progressing nicely with this feature.

We don't have an exact ETA yet. There will be extensive testing in test environments and then in production with a small random sample of users to make sure everything is working as expected.

We will email all sellers when they can connect their paypal accounts to the marketplace and will switch payments to Paypal as soon as a critical mass of those sellers have done so.

That's great to hear, can't wait to use paypal.

So it took this long to get Paypal on the site, but now you're required to upgrade to a business account just to use it? Why is this the case? I don't know of any other site that requires you to have a business account. Not even ebay does that. It's like pulling teeth trying to get the most basic systems to work.

I wanted to sell on this site, but don't see why i have to upgrade to a business account with paypal.

Unfortunately that is a Paypal requirement with their 3rd party setup.  Sorry for any inconvenience.  There are no additional fees for a business account.
